I am looking for a wine tasting class in the San Jose, California area. I am a beginning taster. Any ideas?

A little far from San Jose, but worth the drive. UC Davis Extension has a 1-1/2 day class. Intro to Sensory Evaluation of Wine. It's usually a Saturday and half of Sunday. I highly recommend it. Taught by John Buchenstein, winemaker at Fife and a wine judge. Ann Noble and other UC Davis profs teach parts of the class.

Also, there are a lot of wineries within driving distance -- good places to go practice after you have finished your class -- or before! A couple to the south near Santa Cruz (Bonny Doon is one of my favorites, and they have a lot of different varieties and styles) and all those wonderful places in Napa and Sonoma to the north. Lucky you!
Also, Stanford is close; maybe they offer extension classes... Also local wine shops may offer tastings or classes. And Sur La Table shops sometimes offer these types of classes... Call around...

The University of California at Santa Cruz extension offers wine appreciation classes in Sunnyvale. Their webpage is at http://www.ucsc-extension.edu
