I am hosting a wine and cheese party and need recommendations on quality, yet affordable, wines, places to buy, amount to buy, etc.

Recommendations on wines to buy, amount to buy, places to buy, indeed.

What type of cheese are you serving, how many people and where are you?

i just hosted a wine tasting last night with 2 itialian wines. 1995 Zenato Valpollicello Classico - to be served with a mild cheddar or gouda and the 1995 Taurino Salice Salentino - to be served with romano or parmesan. Both wines were a complete hit with the cheeses.

oh, i forgot to tell you the prices - each bottle goes for about $10/11 a bottle. Very nice wines if you need to buy many bottles.

I have not narrowed my focus enough to specifically say what cheeses I will serve. I will say that I will be serving a variety of cheeses, including gouda, cheddar, brie, etc. I expect from 25-30 people and am located in the Northern Virginia. Recommendations on places to purchase are more than welcomed.

Certain types of cheeses do well with certain wines, and then there are those that do not. If this is a tasting you will want to be careful about the pairing.

But if this is just a gathering where wine and cheese will be served, all you need to know is where to buy the wine. Aren't there wines shops near you? If not, perhaps someone on the board who lives in or near northern Va. could help.
