would anyone know if a 1973 dom perignon is
"rare" or valuable? thanks - it was a wedding gift back then and we kept waiting for "a special occasion" to open it... now that we're divorced, it seems we may have waited too long...

1973 was a tough year for Champagne, but some good bottles were made that had a 20 year life. Champagne is very fragile. Assuming your bottle was stored in optimal conditions, it MAY still be enjoyable, but it is pretty long in the tooth. Pop the cork, pour a glass, play "Thank God and Greyhound He's Gone" on the stereo, then post a note on how the wine was!

You could always celebrate the anniversary of your divorce...assuming it was mutually desired??

My experience with Champagne, and DP in particular, is that it ages much better than we give it credit for...but keep in mind that I like old Champagne smells and tastes. If you're into young fruity, citrusy kind of flavors, you probably won't like it.

And storage is important...but if it has been stored at a steady 70 degrees or lower over that two decades...you may be in for a real treat (but I would have a back-up bottle of something younger standing by).
