Hi Wine25, and welcome to the wine board. The percentage of alcohol in a wine is printed on the bottle. It is determined by how much sugar was in the grapes to begin with, and how much of the sugar was converted into alcohol during fermantation.

The wine that normally has the lowest amount of alcohol is riesling (a white wine). The cost of wine is not determined by grape variety. It is like asking which is cheaper; American, German, or Japanese cars. It depends of the model, make, etc. If you want a red wine, Beaujolais (made with gamay) is the lightest red you can get. Whether a wine is light, medium, or full correlates with the amount of alcohol in it.

You are welcome to ask as many question here as you want, but please limit yourself to one posting per question. We only have one "team" that covers all the treads. The wine world appears complicated to some, but we try to make it simple here.
