Could someone please gently explain what kind of champagne I should get for New Year? I have no clue.
Thank you.

Judy...Give us a little more guidance. How many people? Are they regular wine drinkers or do they drink champagne once a year on New Years? Do you have a budget? Are you looking for value/bargain to serve a large bunch? Looking for top quality to impress a boss or lover?

Fill in some of the blanks and you'll get lots of suggestions.

How dumb I are!
I am looking for champagne for 4 people who drink it on the birth of babies, marrages, and New Years Eve. Nothing too sweet.
Under $40.00
Thanks for any help. Betcha I am not alone here!

There are a fair number of Champagnes to fit your description. What you will get here are the favorites of each individual who posts an answer, and you will likely get quite a variety of answers. The decision will be yours.

For dry and reasonably priced, I like Pol Roger (Brut).

For semi-dry, try Moet, White Star (Extra Dry) I don't like it, but I met many others who do.

Thank you...looking for others favorites.

At the risk of setting off a firestorm (see elsewhere on the board), since you spelled it with a small "c", you could get TWO bottles of Reoderer Estate, Alexander Valley. Brut; or Piper-Sonoma, Blanc de Noir. Two of my favorites at any price.

"J" sparkling goes for about $30...is consistent vintage after vintage...has a taste profile that has a broad appeal (not too sweet, but not austere) and comes in a great looking bottle that adds to the gift.

Thank you, I am off to the wine store tomorrow!
