I am the best man at an upcoming wedding. I heard an idea of giving the couple bottles of wine as a wedding gift--one bottle for the 1 year anniversary, one for the 5 year, and one for the ten year. As someone who knows nothing about wine, I could use some suggestions. Please keep in mind that I am a student and don't have a fortune to spend.

Hi JAW and welcome to the Wine Board. A couple of things need to be determined first. Are they wine drinkers, and do they have facilities to store wine for five to ten years? If the answers to these questions are positive here are some suggestions. For the first anniversary I would recommend a Champagne or other sparkler. For the five year anniversary a German Riesling Spatlese or one of the nice rieslings now coming out of Australia. For the ten year anniversary recommend a 2000 Bordeaux now available. For some inexpensive Bordeaux go down to the Bordeaux thread and see several that have been posted in the last week. Regardless you are going to need the help of a reputable wine retailer.

What would qualify as appropriate facilities to store the wine?

A place that stays below 70 degrees F most of the time, other than brief periods; and and also avoids low humidity.
