I am a novice and the only wine I have ever tried is white zinfandel. Could you recommend a nice red wine. I will be preparing a dish of chicken and pasta with tomato sauce and would like to perhaps try a Merlot wine with the meal. Any suggestions? Thank you for your time

Hi Gandalf, and welcome to the Wine Board. Even though there are some wonderful Italian Merlots out there, merlot does not have sufficient acidity to get through the tomatoes, the most acidic food on earth. Go for an Italian Barbera d'Asti or Chianti. With Barbera the less you spend the better, because the more expensive ones are too complex. For the Chianti the more you spend the better. You can get the barbera for around $14 and the Chianti for around $18.

Hi gandalf, and welcome. You mite wanna' try a nice Calif Zinfadel ( Regular Red) with that dish. Try the Gallo Sonoma or the Sutter Home. Always try to keep the money at home . WW
