Help! I am a novice and looking for suggestions on very good wines (red or white, must be dry) made in 1945 and 1947. Any suggestions? Where could I purchase these? What kind of price range might I expect?

You're talking about 45 year old wines! The only place you might find them might be through rare wine auction houses and the chances of them being drinkable is pretty slim.

You shuld be shopping for wines from 1995 and 1997.

He's right. '45 and'47 are generally collector years for Bordeaux. Forget any whites that old, they would be a true gamble (besides Sauternes or comparable). Price ranges are in the stratosphere, especially for '45. This was the first post war vintage and is significant for many of the older and wealthier collectors. This is also the year Mouton started his art labels with the famous "V" for victory.
