I have been reading the board on and off for about a year, but this is my first post.

I would describe myself as a beginning wine aficianado, but one who is very interested in learning more and making the enjoyment of wine a life long hobby.

I am set to take a trip to the left coast and was hoping I could fish for recommendations for vineyards to visit that might provide the most enjoyment and learning for someone of my level of interest and knowledge.

Thanks

Have been mostly visiting the Central Coast in recent years. If there was one place in Napa or Sonoma I would recommend to someone with your experiance it would be Sterling Vineyard in Napa Valley.

Hi Jexmund and welcome to the board. If you'll go back 1 year on the Wine Country Touring/Dining thread I think you'll have all the info you need. A lot depends on where you're staying. If you don't find what you need, post where you're staying in Napa and Sonoma and I'll repost the alternative visits. WW

I live in the San Francisco area so go to the Napa Valley a few times a year. If you want to learn more about wine, I would recommend a tour. Some good ones are St. Supery, Joseph Phelps and Beringer. Look on the internet and you can get details. With some you will need to make reservations. A lot of people like V. Sattui but to me it is too much like a theme park. Have fun - the Napa Valley is a wonderful place to visit.

If you do go to Sonoma, DeLoach Vineyards has guesthouse accommodations if you book ahead. They have received some recognition for their chardonnays, but I especially like their single vineyard zinfandels such as Barbieri Vineyard and Gambogi Vineyard. Beringer and Sterling are good recommendations in Napa.
