- Marian - 08-22-2005 As a novice, both my hubby and I,we bought a bottle of Ruffino Chianti,as I like red wines very much.I was wondering, what is the proper way to pronounce Chianti..is it(she-anti)?Thank you. - Georgie - 08-22-2005 Hard c- (Key-AHN-tee) - Marian - 08-22-2005 Thank you Georgie!! - SusieQ - 08-27-2005 Everyone agrees on the hard c for chianti but what about bruschetta?? When I pronounce the hard c (Brew-sketta) I am corrected - by companions and serving staff alike. Am I off-course on this?? - Kcwhippet - 08-28-2005 "ch" is always pronounced as a "k" sound, so you're correct Susie. Your companions and serving staff are completely incorrect, and you can tell them so with impunity. - Thomas - 08-28-2005 KC is "chorrect." In Italian, ch is pronounced as an English k, a letter that is not in the Italian alphabet. Ci and ce are pronounced as the English phonetic tchee and tchay: ciao--tcheeow=hello, goodbye, wassup; cena--tchaynah=dinner. And while we are at it, they are not bisc"ah"tti but bisc"oh"tti that one dips into Vino Santo. The letter o in Italian is not pronounced like a short a but like an o. |
