I'm going to a Christmas dinner that will feature duck. What wines go well with duck?

- Bucko - 12-21-1999

Again, it depends on how it is cooked, but in general, Pinot Noir is a very good match.

Agreed...full bodied Pinot, like David Bruce, Byron Reserve, Chalone, Santa Cruz Mountain Vineyard.

Stay away from too sweet sauces if you have any say.

I agree with the Pinot Noir but also, if you prepare duck with a sweet or sweet/sour sauce you can pair it with a fruity Risling or a fine Gewurztraminer.

Mostly, I try to be general about the producers but here I see NY in your screen name, so maybe you can get your hands on some good NY Rieslings: Glenora, Dr. Frank's, Fox Run, Prejean. For NY Gewurztraminer: Prejean, Dr. Frank's, Standing Stone.

That's Riesling, not Risling.
