He everyone I need to buy a gift for my boss, I know he likes Merlot. I don't want to break the bank, as the budget is very tight. $30.00 or so.

Do you have to spend alot to get a good wine?

Please help me!

I've heard Winoweenie and others praise Duckhorn Merlot. The 2004 should be available for around $25.

Is Solaris okay?

or

Australian Yelloe Tail, or Little Penguin?

Solaris is a mid level Merlot that's quite good and retails around $15. The Yellow Tail and Little Penguin are lower tier mass market wines that retail about $7. From what you say, your boss may know wines a bit, so these might not fit the bill. I'd suggest you go to your nearest wine shop and speak to the wine manager. Let him know your budget, the fact that your boss knows wines, and I'm sure he can suggest the perfect wine.

BTW, Duckhorn makes 4 different Merlots, and I've seen them ranging from $50 for the 2004 Napa Valley Merlot to $85 for the Estate Vineyard Merlot.

Recommend Chateau de Sales Pomerol, either '02 or '04, not an '03. It is an East Bank Bordeaux made predominately with Merlot, and runs in the high $20s.
