Have just joined the hospitality industry and would like to ask if someone would be kind enough to give me a basic rundown of the differences between wines, chardonney, sav blanc, merlot etc.... Would be greatly appreciated as I'm a bit embarassed to ask my work colleagues, who seem to know it all. THankyou

fetu1990, most of the experts on this board will recommend a book called "Wine For Dummies". Though I have not read this book, I know this series on many other subjects and is always a good introduction book. You mentioned Chardonnay, Melot, etc.)which are grape varieties and many wines are made from a single variety, but not all. There are other things about wine "culture" you'll want to learn about if you are going to be in the industry.

Another book, "Great Wine Made Simple" by Andrea Immer is a great resource.

You might also want to ask your boss in the hospitality industry, who really should provide training, if not help pay for it.
