Hi,
I am a newbie to wine tasting and drinking. I was wondering how one would determine whether a wine can be bought and saved for aging. I stopped by a wine store the other day and noticed wines from the 1980's going for over hundreds of dollars. Is there a guide to which wines I can buy now and store for 5-10 years?

Hi Punkoz, and welcome to the Wine Board. You might start with the wines you saw from the 80's and get the current vintages for aging. The 2000 Bordeaux which are available now, are excellent. Invest in most any that sell for $18 or over. Year in and year out the current vintage of Brunello di Montalcino is a good bet. They are expensive, even in the current vintage. California Cabernet particularly those from Napa Valley are getting very expensive, but these are the one that age best. There are still some you can get in the $30 range. Little known petite sirah from California makes a great ager. Look for those costing upwards of $15.
