Did anyone see the USA Weekend for this past weekend (or usaweekend.com)? There was an article entitled "Good Wines, Great Prices" on p. 24. They mention a line called "Two Buck Chuck" (Bronco Wine Co. Charles Shaw brand) as "surprisingly drinkable", includes merlot, chard, SB and CS, and is sold in Trader Joe's stores in California for $1.99.
I am certainly NOT dying to try any, but I was just curious if anyone on the board has ever tasted this stuff, is alive to tell the tale [img]http://www.wines.com/ubb2/eek.gif[/img], and is not too embarrassed [img]http://www.wines.com/ubb2/redface.gif[/img] to admit it to comment. I'm just a novice here (certainly not a wine snob!), haven't tried many wines much over $20, but $2 seems unbelievable to be drinkable.

Sorry, Winoweenie, I'm new to the board so I wasn't aware it's already been discussed. I've never heard of it, plus I don't think we have Trader Joe's in upstate New York. Just curious...thanks for your comments on it!

Also, the only Two Buck Chuck who would probably be interested in would be the chardonnay (the rest are red). Even at $2 it is an oak bomb. How do they do it? They make it in enormous batches. They take oak sawdust, and toast it. Then they let it filter down through the chardonnay in a huge tank. Viola, oaky chardonnay for two bucks. Want to run out and buy some?

Trying a wine is the fun ans excitement to me. It is the game of is it good to drink with this or that......
Experimenting is always fun: the samething all the time! What is that! Never be afraid of the unknown and try anything. Besides...two bucks...heck some people spend hundreds to find it was a poor choice.

Come on. "2 buck chuck" isn't going to win any awards, but for $2.00, (here in Ohio it is actually $3.49) it is not a bad wine. Would I serve it as something more than a simple table wine, or a wine to be savored? No. We like this wine when we will have a large number of guests, when we want a drink in the evening before bed and we don't want a whole bottle. It has a nice flavor. I haven't had a terrible bottle yet. We like the whites and the reds. It certainly isn't vinigar. And actually it corks overnight much better than alot of other wines that I have bought. It is certainly worth a try for the price. What have you got to lose? $2.00.
