I saw my pdoc today, a quarterly med check. I asked him about drinking wine. His response:

As long in moderation, and NOT when I was cycling down, it was okay to have a glass a day. The postive benefits outweighed the negative ones, again, as long as I watched my moods.

We discussed the French paradox, healthy food/lifestyle and other aspects, but he still felt that as long as a person was careful, watched their mood levels, didn't drink when depressed, and no more than one glass a day, it was safe and he approved.
Dr. Sam is not only my psychiatrist, he is also head of the psych. dept at the facility, and head of the psychological education department at the univerity.

Please, for all who read this, realize that just because my doctor has okayed my having a glass of wine, does not mean you should take it as his okay for anyone else. Each person is uniquely different, and disorders, i.e. Bipolar, have differnet levels of intensity. Someone may have a severe level and have different reactions than I do. ALWAYS check with your doctor, whether family or pdoc, before you do such a change, such as having a glass of wine, OTC meds, or anything that affects your health.

Hope I haven't stepped on anyone's toes here. My apoligies if I have, I don't know if there are certain procedures here.

Our resident sawbones, Dr. Bucko, hasn't complained yet, so you're probably okie-dokie. He's got a pretty good sense of humor, anyway...otherwise, he wouldn't hang out with this bunch of miscreants and malcontents.
