Hi Winelover, Welcome to the Wine Board.

However, I have some bad news for you. You just will not be able to keep any wine for five years unless you can give the wine a proper cellar.

By that, I mean a place to store the wine where the temperature is a very constant 51 to 55 degrees F and the humidity is about 70 to 80 percent and the light level is very, very low to dark.

If you can do that than you can buy some wines to cellar for a few years. But, generally speaking, you will not successfully cellar $10.00 wines.

The wines you will want to cellar, generally speaking, start around the $40.00 to $50.00 range or higher.........

You might want to start drinking some of those wines in your rack and then start replacing them with similar priced but newer vintage wines. Most wines are produced to be drunk young, only a few are produced for ageing.

Sorry to discourage you, but you'd better drink those wines that look so neat in your rack before they become vinegar (and not very good vinegar, at that). Hopefully, that has not happened already........

Some posts, like the one that started this thread, truly baffle me.

The writer likes the look of wines on a rack; why?

The writer buys only wines under $10 to collect: why?

The writer does not drink them but wants the collected wines to last five years; why?
