Opinions???

tw buddy. Which Bob???? They make a jillion different wines. IMHO their best cabs are solid performers every year. Look on the cabernet thread and you'll find many postings of mine on this venerable producer. WW

Reliable.

Doesn't matter what price point, they are all good. Not a big fan, however, of the "Private Selection" line.

I went on a trip to their wineries and was amazed that every drop of wine sees oak. No chips. Even Woodbridge! There were 80,000 barrels at that winery!

I prefer the Napa Valley Robert Mondavi wines over the Central Coast or other designations.

Maybe I have a scewed view of their winery, but it would seem they are more into the mass prodcution than quality. Although most of their wines are indeed quite good.

Tw you, IMHO, are a little skewed regarding Mondavi. Along with other giants like B.V and Gallo these fine producers make not only mass production juice but with their tremendous land holdings have some of the best vineyards in Calif. Year after year it's hard to find better wine than Mondavi Reserve or Napa bottlings, B.V Reserve or Tapestry, (along with the excellent Rutherford), or the single vineyard bottlings of Gallo (Barilli Creek, Frei, Stephani, or Sonoma). These superb producers don't have the cachet of the numerous boutique wineries that pop up out of the wood-work yearly but all consistantly make loads of killer juice. It's not in Laubes, Parkers, or any of the orher experts to heap kudos on these wineries. They need to keep discovering the newest super-producer to show their knowledge. WW
