My wife bought a 6 bottle case packed in a wood box of Chateau Boswell of Napa Valley - 1983, Cabernet Sauvignon at our local Rotary Club Charity auction a couple years ago. The donor swore it was some valuable wine. My wife swears it was an "investment" - I think it was just a "donation". Can anyone tell me what it is worth or where I could go to find out? And where I could sell it if I should so choose. Thanks!

Hoo boy ... the stuff is probably undrinkable now -- not worth much in its youth. Do you target practice? The splatter is impressive.

The 2002 Chateau Boswell Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is selling for $80 or more per bottle on www.wine-searcher.com. Not sure what that means for the '83. It could be worth much more (rarer because of age) or it could be over-the-hill. The estate is "off the Silverado Trail" according to their website. Winoweenie may know more about the estate. Several sites are available for wine auctions. WineBid.com is one such. An interested buyer would want to know how well the wine has been stored over the years (preferably at 55 degrees F. in a quite, dark place). If it is to be treated as an investment it should probably be offered on the market sooner rather than later as it may deteriorate or already be past its prime.

Add a marginal vintage to a marginal producer you have a nice write-off with marginal pleasure. Sorry. Welcome to the board. WW

See, WOW just blew off my advice. It was direct, but honest. 83 sucked as a vintage and the winery sucked back then (still may). Two sucks, you're out.

BTW, the splatter effect with a high velocity round like a .22-250 IS impressive.
