I assume you all have already discussed this movie.

I thought it was great in its depiction of real people, with all their faults and ugliness, depression, duplicity, along with their generousity and optimism. Also, the other film I have seen by this same director (About Schmidt) tries to capture the reality of life too.

OH, and the wine sampling in Napa and discussion of wines was great too. I wonder if sales of Pinot Noir went up after this film came out?

Search the board on the word sideways for discussions, including the affect on sales of PN.

Just to avoid confusion, and to placate my pedantic side (though, in my defense, the obsolete definition of pedant is "male schoolteacher," which I am, though just writing that is probably pedantic, too, so I'm hopeless), the wine region in question was Santa Barbara, not Napa

Santa Barbara, right. My mistake! As an East Coaster (only been to LA, once) I get confused sometimes.

It's really surprising how many people have confused Napa Valley with Santa Barbara County. I've even seen a column by a reviewer living in California who made the same geographical juxtaposition.
