A friend asked this question, so I've decided to put it before y'all since I'm sure to get some excellent QPR answers:

If you were going to pick one current release red wine in the $40-50 range for a special occasion, which one would it be?

(This is a straightforward wine pick...the food pairing will be determined after the wine is selected...feel free to include pairing suggestions...I'll pass it all along.)

Thanks, cp

I know we've plowed this field recently, but can't find it anywhere. It was the exact same question.

IK, I thought so too, but couldn't find the thread. If someone finds it, then point me that direction. cp

Found it! Found it! http://www.wines.com/ubb2/Forum39/HTML/000204.html , but it was only $25.00. So, this is what we would go for, 1998 Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou, St Julien.

Serafini & Vidotti Rosso del'Abazia 1997 (and you'll get $8 back from your $40), bang for the buck champion of the Foux Bordeux set.....

98 Pape Clement, Graves.

Thanks all...excellent suggestions as always. My bias in this price range is toward the Ch. du Pape wines, though the usual approach is lay 'em down fer 10-15+.

IK, excellent work solving the prev. thread "puzzluh"..your reward: another FREE week of listening to Car Talk on your local Pub. Radio station

Observations: 1)s'pose Beaucaillou picks are pretty safe each year. 2)Of course Roberto names 1 that only he stocks 3) WW, credit for bein' the only one o' the bunch wavin' Old Glory. cp

1998 Alain Burguet Gevrey-Chambertin VV. Forward, tasty, and ready to go. (No change from your pair of $20s, however.)
