i am a new wine drinker and have been drinking barbera wines lately and really like them. i was hoping to expnd my horizons a bit but have no idea hwere to start. cabs? merlots? noirs? years? any thoughts? im really looking for some good bottles that i can drink throughout the week. more as a relaxing drink not so much with dinner. any help would be appreciated thanks

Hi Tbarbera, and welcome to the Wine Board. If you are drinking Italian Barbera you might might to try some nice ones made in California for contrast. Enotria and Easton on two that we like very much. Other high acid reds include Pinot Noir, Gamay (Beaujolais and Cru Beaujolais), and Sangiovese (Chianti and other Tuscan reds).

Low acid reds include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Zinfandel. These are available at all price points.

A low acid Italian coming from the same area as your Barbera is Dolcetto.

All the above are suitable for quaffing, as well as with food.
