Hello I am very new to wine and am wondering what would be a good wine to just drink with out food? I want to buy affordable wine like under 12.00's. Please let me know. I would like to start off with the American wines first. Thank you

Hi Wine2nite, and welcome to the Wine Board. The best wines to try are those your own palate follows. If one lives in a wine producing region, visiting a local winery gives an opportunity to taste several kinds of wine at a time to determine what one likes.

Since you live in MO you have that opportunity. Don't know exactly where in the state you live, but if it is anywhere near St Louis there is a winery just west in Augusta, MO. It is called Mount Pleasant, and is an operation I am fond of. They, and any other that may be closer to you, will take good care of you.

Try winespectator.com. They provide the ability to search for the varietal you like to drink in a certain price range and will list the results in point order. Many wine sites provide similar services.

Talk to your local wine merchant. Find one that is knowledgeable. They can best tell you what wines meet the style you like and may have some suggestions for trying some better wines that you might enjoy even more. There are a lot of very drinkable wines in the $9 - $12 range.

Good luck!
