NEED INFO ON THE JEKEL WINES-RATINGS ETC

- Jerry D Mead - 09-16-1999

Jekel Vineyards wines (at east the ones I know about) are in Monterey County, not Bordeaux...though they do make wines from the Bordeaux family of grapes.

It was founded by twin brothers Bill & Gus Jekel and their wives in the early seventies and is now owned by Brown-Forman Distillers (producers of Jack Daniels and Fetzer Vineyards).

Pretty much everything in the line is good...they're probably best known for Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Meritage.

If there's a Bordeaux Jekel, maybe one of the other folks know about it.

ALSO-MERLOT-MALBEC-PETIT VERDOT ALL 1994

I bet you're looking at one of those gift/educational 6-packs...that contains one bottle each of the five Bordeaux varieties...Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot...plus one bottle of the blend of all five, labeled Meritage...all from the same vintage.

They don't do them every year, and when they do only in excellent vintages, so you can hardly go wrong.

It is one of the few opportunities to taste all those varieties, from a single producer, from a single vineyard source, anywhere in the world.

I'm proud to tell you, I'm the one who suggested to the Jekel/Brown-Forman folks that these collections be made abailable...and they've become an extremely valuable educational tool for wine education classes (as well as a good drink).

And no...this was not a set-up. I don't know Paul.
