Yes, this is out of order. Part 1 to follow. Bad news first.

Arrived home yesterday from a wonderful trip to Napa/Sonoma. The car pulled up in front of our apartment, and the driver helped us unpack our belongings--which consisted of 3 cases of wine (each in a 12-pack shipping box), 1 6-pack carry-on, 1 4-pack carry-on, and 2 small rolling carry-on pieces of luggage (far more wine than clothes). As the driver lugged everything to the curb, I began the task of lugging the large cases of wine inside to the elevator. We grabbed our mail, and once we had everything on the elevator, we went up to our apartment.

Yesterday was our 2nd anniversary (we'd had the trip to celebrate this). As we arrived home around 7p, we ordered in a nice dinner, and popped the cork on a nice old bottle of Caymus (TNs in the appropriate thread later). Then, it was off to bed.

As I stood in our bedroom in my boxer shorts (too much info, I know!) Amanda suddenly says to me, "honey, where are the six packs of wine?" And I replied, "I don't know--I thought you had them." At this point, I threw on a pair of pants and a t-shirt, slipped on a pair of shoes, and raced downstairs. I searched the foyer of our apartment and the curb outside. Nothing. This was, of course, about 3 hours after we'd arrived.

We called the car company to see if it was still in the trunk. Nada.

We came back upstairs and looked again in the apartment. This is Manhattan, and apartments aren't generally large, so this didn't take very long. We looked, and looked again. Nothing.

Gradually we came to the realization that we either left the 6-pack and the 4-pack on the curb, or perhaps brought it in and left it in the foyer. Our apartment is a brownstone, and only has 9 units, so I was hoping that perhaps someone had seen it and placed it inside their door.

In any event, I drafted a flyer on the computer, and posted it all over the apartment, as well as on the cars outside. Sad to say, nothing has shown up thus far.

If any of you are still with me, the real kicker is this: Out of all the wine we bought on the trip (about 6 cases; we were carrying 4, and had 2 shipped), some of the NICEST wines were those that were in the carry-on packs!

Here's what we lost:
In the 4-pack:
2 1.5 liter 1997 Flora Springs "Wild Boar" cabs
2 bottles of estate olive oil

And in the 6-pack:
1 750ml 1997 Stag's Leap Cask 23 (the winery's VERY LAST bottle!!!!), which we were going to save for our 10th anniversary; funny (or not) how this one meshes with Roberto's shoe story
3 750ml 1991 Jordan cabs (we'd had this bottle in a restaurant a year ago, so a lot of sentimental--and actual--value)
1 1997 Ridge Nervo Ranch Zin
1 1999 Rochioli Estate Pinot Noir

In total, about $800 worth of wine. Suffice to say, we're both sick to our stomachs.

And by the way, credit card insurance doesn't cover consumables--we asked.

Sad, mad RAD

Good Gracious Rad!!!!!! This is not only a terrible thing to happen but the sad thing is whoever retrieved your marvy boxes will probably drink it from (as Boto says) a paper cup. I'm so sorry .WW

Wow! Clearly the wine lover's bummer-of-the-month story. Sorry to hear that RAD. cp
