I have 10 gallons of local grapes to make into wine. The recipe I have calls for 6 lbs of grapes per gallon of wine. Is there a conversion factor I can use to get gallons to lbs, or since I'm making 5 gallons of wine, just try to weigh out 30 lbs?

You have 10 gallons of grapes?

If you mean that you have grapes filling a ten-gallon container, that is not 10 gallons of grapes.

You can weigh them but really, why don't you just press the grapes and see how many gallons of juice you get out of them?

If I remember correctly, approximately 13 pounds of wine grapes are required to make a gallon of finished wine--or on a grander scale, it takes a ton of grapes to produce 150 gallons.

Thanks foodie. Talked to another enthusiast last night and he had the same idea. Hobbyists around here are really getting into 'the bottle'.
