- Drew - 08-31-2002 55% Zin, 26% Alicante Boushet, 10% Cab Sauv, 9% Valiguie. Dark purple, almost opaque. Brambly zinberry flavors with port and cassis notes with earthy accents and creamy vanilla. Nice finish. A very nice wine for $12 (Ocean City prices) 14.3% Alc/vol. Drew - winoweenie - 09-01-2002 When residing in Denver 25 years ago, Martys' daughter sauntered into Arganaut liquors as I was talking to one of the Robinson brothers and said she had a mystery wine. It was noon somewhere so when asked to join, not wnating to hurt this lovely girls feelings, I said Pour. This was my 1st encounter with ole Big Red. Has been a staple for my grill ebber sincely. Sold for the princely number of 2.99 retail. WW - Drew - 09-01-2002 I'm becoming more and more of a fan of these proprietary blends. This is a delicious wine that will pair well with many foods. Drew - winoweenie - 09-01-2002 Jes' had a bottle of the 97 at lunch with a tri-tip sammich that was a killer. Fun stuff that makes eating a pleeazure. They have a beautiful tasting room about 5 minutes outside of Healdsburg on the upper Westside rd. WW - Innkeeper - 06-11-2003 Popped our first one tonight. It was the '01 at the same price as Drew's '99. It was 65% Zin, 15% Alicante, 11% Cab, and 6% Pinot. Weighs in at a lighter 13.7% alcohol. An excellent all purpose red in the same league as Marietta Old Vine Red. Agree with WW that it would be great with the products of the barbie. Believe it or not, it is still too cool here for that. So, we matched it with broiled beef kielbasa, potato cakes, and salad with Russian Dressing. Wonderful. - JagFarlane - 06-11-2003 Too cold for a bar-b-que? That's sacraligious man! I've done that in the snow! - Innkeeper - 06-12-2003 I'm much older than you! - Kcwhippet - 06-12-2003 Much, much older. - Drew - 06-12-2003 Really, MUCH,MUCH,MUCH OLDER!!!!!! WW - JagFarlane - 06-12-2003 Hmmm older and full of wisdom about good wines then? - winoweenie - 06-13-2003 Older yes, Feeble NO, active yes, wiser youse bet your booty!! WW - JagFarlane - 06-13-2003 LoL well the not being feeble was a given...hell my 76yr old grandfather isn't feeble...in fact he's gettin better with age...and my great-grandmother lived in her own home till she died...at 90... - Kcwhippet - 06-13-2003 Age doesn't need to imply feebleness. My father retired as a marketing manager with a major defense contractor back in 1998 when he was 81. That was right after he married a woman my age. Now he and his wife run a school for ballroom dance, and he goes through 4 to 5 bottles of wine a week by himself. I sure do hope all those genes are in me. - Georgie - 06-13-2003 Go Dad! |
