Drove a short distance into SE Pennsylvania today to play a round of golf. Hadn't touched a club since early September '03. Shot 82 from the blue tees, did ok, and afterwards drove home across the Susquehanna River, Connawingo Dam to a little off the road liquor store, hillbilly [img]http://wines.com/ubb2/biggrin.gif[/img], that always has some nice, hard to get, sleeper wines. Spied a 3L bottle of "99" Reds for $33. Large format, great for BBQ parties...bought it. Got home and realized that my Dyslectic eyes made a "faux Pax" as it was a 1996. Question, anyone think this has a chance? The store temp is always in the high 60's.

in my limited experience, i'd say your wine is a goner. my regular wine shop has temps constantly in high 60s, and in the past year i've bought some low- to mid-level wines off the clearance shelf that were from 96 and 98 in burgundy, 97 and 00 in oz. the 96, 97 and 98s were totally over the hill. just poured them out. and the '00 (which i had a few weeks ago) was tired. i'll keep my fingers crossed for you (and have those backup bottles ready).

Drewskie, IMHO think you may, as usual, have fallen in the proverbial pot and come out with roast beef. This wine has enough residual tannin to age in the 750s for a couple. The big format should have all its' stuff together and should make for a kick-patootie drink. WW

I would be happy with a 82 from the whites.
