Eileen and I spent some time at University Hospital with my new granddaughter, who's doing well despite the rough start. Afterwards, ventured into south Baltimore in the trendy Cross Street Market area and had dinner at "Corks" on South Charles Street. The wine list was extensive and fairly priced and the food was good, but portions were very small and all sides were a la carte. I find it disappointing to pay $22 for a small grilled chicken breast, $23 for a small grilled tuna filet and then $10 for 2 small salads. Anyway, it was nice to go out with my wife, which was long overdue, our schedules being out of control as of late.

The '97 Fife Syrah was one of the nicest I've had out of California. Deep color, rich scents of spicy plum and earth notes. Deep berry notes mingled with peppery plum and earthy, leathery flavors with a good acidic backbone that matched nicely with the food. 13.2% Alc/vol. $45 at the restaurant and I understand the release price was $30 with 500+ cases made.

Drew, belated congrats! That is also our favorite Syrah from California but why is it a "wine without a category"??? That is a GREAT price for any restaurant let alone the gougers you describe....

You're right, Boto, should a posted in "Best Buys"!! This really is a wonderfull California Syrah wine. They're only gougers on the food; I'm still ranting today over the small portions. Roberto, what do you sell this wine for in your business?
