I haven't posted in a good long while, mostly because work has been keeping me busy and I haven't had a chance to drink much wine. But every once in a while I get to crack open a bottle of vino....

Tonight I had my first Gruner Veltliner, and it was absolutely lovely. The 2001 Zull offered plenty of wildflowers, honeydew, apricot, and peach up front, and the taste was full of ripe honeydew and peach with a dash of mineral and a hint of pepper. The crispness of the wine reminded me a great deal of clean, unoaked French white Burgundy. The GV paired well with herb-roasted chicken, mashed spuds, mesclun w/ olive oil, herb dressing, and a small baked sweet potato. 12.5% Alc., ~$15.00

Nice TN. Tend to reach for a GV when the choice of a white is difficult.
