I had just about given up on $10 meritages. Tried this one last night. What a pleasant surprise. Strong chocolate and coffee on the nose. Definite strawberry on the tongue. Decent finish with soft lingering fruits. Does not need food to bring it out either. The bottle does not list quantity of each, only that it contains Cabernet, Zin, and Syrah. Produced by Midnight Cellars, Paso Robles. Alcohol is 13.6% by vol. I am not confident enough to actually rate wine at this point in my posting career, but let me say I will certainly be buying more on my next trip to my shop to keep as a house wine.

GAD, If it has that blend of grapes, it's not a true Meritage. That's a trademarked term of the Meritage Association for a Bordeaux style wine that only has a blend of some or all of the Bordeaux varietals. Be that as it may, Midnight Cellars does have a habit of putting out some good blends. We really like their stuff, but in all our trips to the Paso Robles area, we haven't made it there yet. Have to rectify that on our next trip out.

I wholetonguedly agree with the Whipster on this'un GAD. Midnite makes some really high P/Q bottlings. Haven't tried any of the Full but will look for it next trip. WW

I tried some wines from Midnite Cellars at a recent tasting in Ohio last month, and thought they were decent for the money. Don't know if I tasted the Meritage though... as I seem to not be able to remember much from that night for some unknown reason? hehehe.

How right you are Foodie. I must stop the waiting game. I see others who go right out when they find a good wine and buy a case. Now I know why. I guess I wasn't the only one who liked it!!
