Walla Walla Valley.

So, really, does this go here or in the Rhone section? Choices, choices.

Decanted for 40 minutes before 1st pour and stayed in the decanter another 2 1/2 hours while drinking. Significant evolution over the 3+ hours. Deep purple core with blood red flashes on edge of glass. Nose somewhere between blueberry pie and Anne's blackberry crumble dessert. Weighty entry of dark fruits hemmed in by the tannin wall. After time, elements began climbing that wall and jumping over to the other side. Mixed dark berry jammy flavors, chocolate, and a touch of dark liqorice. Velvety texture. Later in the evening, and Anne is the one who noticed it, the wine gave off the scent and flavors of Big Red chewing gum. You could almost chew it. Wierd. Overall, an interesting wine. Made by a guy named Charles Smith, who looks like a cross between a biker and the rocker Sammy Hagar, from purchased fruit. He makes several Syrahs, generally vineyard-designates. We didn't have time to visit while in Washington for the offline, so when we were startled to see this pop up on a shelf here in Atlanta upon our return, we bought it to give it a taste. Glad to have tried it. Ran $50, which is steep. I would love to try a bottle in 5 years and another in 10, to see how it's matured and evolved, but I'm not spending the $100 to do it. Alc. 14%.
