Among the Washington State wines we sampled at the Fayetteville Wine Society May meeting were the 2005? Helix Aspersa and the 2003 Helix Pomatia, both from Columbia Valley and both impressive.

The Helix Aspersa is a white blend but one year was from 60% Viognier and 40% Chardonnay and the next year from 75% Chardonnay and 25% Pinot Gris. I think we had the 2005 which was the Viognier/Chardonnay blend. I found the slightest touch of wax or parrafin in the nose with delicate flavors of apple and pear.

The 2003 Helix Pomatia was a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 16% Syrah and 7% Cabernet Franc from Ash Hollow, Clifton Hill, Patina, Pepper Bridge, Phinney Hill, Pleasant, Sundance, and Seven Hills Vineyards. Cooperage: 53% American oak, 47% French oak. pH 3.54 total aciidity: 0.61g/100ml. 2,207 cases produced.
Nice nose. Pretty deep garnet color. I found dark cherry on the nose and palate--others were getting leather and coffee. I have two bottles at home and will probably post again with more detail when I retry it.

Nice notes and nice wines from standout vineyards. Wish it would find it's way into the GA market.
