Sent to me by a well-meaning board denizen, so I feel obligated to post a note. Unfortunately I cannot post a positive one.

The wine has a pleasant enough nose, a smoky berry aroma. On the palate you notice three problems right off -- residual sugar, too much wood and bitter tannins. Unusual acidity, a bit of spritz (unfinished MLF?) and totally disjointed. FWIW, the wine had a nice berry and black tea aftertaste.

Any TN's on that "Deni Zin" that Bucko mentioned?... and which is a better food match with it...."gift horse" or "crow"?

Bucko - sorry to hear that you got a bad bottle. Happens sometimes, though. And probably happens more often than one would like when it comes from the smaller producers.

Your description sounds in many ways like the two bad bottles of wine from Italy I had to throw out. They were supposed to be very fruit forward "new" nebbiolo wines. Instead they had no fruit, tasted like barnyard and were slightly fizzy (secondary MLF!).
