Anne tossed this into the basket recently, and I frankly didn't pay much attention to it until logging the new purchases into our cellar sheets once we were home. Because the years were ticking away on this, I decided we should open it sooner rather than later. Chiroubles is the highest and most westerly Cru, and is known for producing very light, feminine, and fragrant Gamay wines. Though fragrant, this one was not very light, and in fact was one of the biggest Beaujolais wines I've tried. This one could have even sat for another year or two. Maybe that's the old vines.

Bright ruby color, with the juicy, grapey, Gamay nose jumping out of the glass, along with a floral note (violets?). Intense fruit flavors with a body that was bigger than I had anticipated. Some mineral notes on the finish.

Though the above notes suggest otherwise, this one had mixed reviews in this house. Anne detected a "fishy" note on the finish, which she found offputting. I didn't notice it, but that doesn't mean it wasn't there. At any rate, alc. 12.5% and we paid about $20.

Seems Anne has the noble nose in your house there Dan. (giggle---snort) WW

Nice notes and I would bet that the old vines contributed to the fullness of the wine as you suspected.

Old vine beaujolais are quite something else. They show what wonderful wines gamay can make.
