- viking - 04-27-2000 Going to a dinner party, need to bring the right wine. Please help. - hotwine - 04-27-2000 Mediterranean style chicken dish.... Italian? Greek? French? Spanish? Maybe the answer to that is obvious to some people, but not to me. If that's all I had to go on, I'd probably gamble with a Pinot Griggio, one like Tomassi (could be spelled with two m's and two s's; can't remember). It's very light and fruity, with a nice finish. Or, look for a Mosel-Sahr-Ruwer (see other postings on that subject). Without knowing any more specifics, I'd probably choose the Pinot Griggio. - Scoop - 04-28-2000 More information on the dish is needed for any kind of authoritative recommendation. Depending on the preparation, you could even go with a Cote du Rhone (red) or a Cru Beaujolais. Cheers, Scoop - viking - 04-28-2000 Sorry, wish i could give more info, but that is all I have to go on.Thank you for your help anyway. - winecollector - 04-28-2000 I would suspect a mediterranean style chicken dish would have plenty of herbs and garlic for seasoning. If you want to take a white, go with the Pinot Griggio that Hotwine recommended. If you prefer red though, and want to jazz things up a bit, go with a 1997 Chianti, such as Gabbiano. I think you will be pleasantly suprised with the results. Also, if you go with the Gabbiano, take at least two bottles- it will go really fast! Unless your host turns the bird into a lame duck, either choice should serve you well! - Bucko - 04-28-2000 I'll go along with the Chianti recommendation, and add Sangiovese. Most likely there are olives involved in the dish; these wines seem to go well IMO. Bucko - hernandez - 05-17-2000 not that i am biased but a bottle of vina sol from the torres family never lets me down of . I expect the dinner and party is now over but there will be more im sure |
