Had this dry Chenin Blanc at the famous Grand Central Station Oyster Bar (with oysters on the half shell and then a pan fried oyster dish). An absolute delight.

Dry but with fantastic fruit and wonderfully crisp finish. Based on the Oyster Bar's ridiculous mark-up policy, I guess the wine sells at retail for about $9. Haven't seen it at retail since the days when I sold it as a salesman for its East Coast distributor.

Did you ever see my post about having lunch at Randy's place in the Financial District.

The chow was great, the wine was perfectly matched to the meal and the setting was really quite impressive.

But oh my god, I've never paid that much and never again will pay that much for lunch for two; over a bill including tip.

We could have gone to a local wine shop, bought a bottle, gone to a local deli and bought a couple of pastramis on rye and then settled down at the Battery for a picnic lunch for less than $20.00.........

So much for being a tourist wouldn't you say!

As for the arsters, them is good with that frenchy stuff called chablis....... I like 'em on the half with an ounce or two of hot sauce and lemon juice. And now is the time since we's still in the R months.....

The hell with elections, I'm gonna eat arsters on the half with that sauce stuff from that island in the muddy delta and either a bottle of that chablis or some of that bubbly - what did I say I had - oh yes KRUG...............

Come on down here to the south...... you are almost in real arster country when you get here. Grand Central? Ain't that a railroad station? Ooooooooh, was it there or was it at the port authority (thats a bus station)where they used to serve the best damn clam chowder I ever had....... but thems clams; you gotta come south for the arsters.

Dutton, the Oyster Bar at Grand Central offers no fewer than three dozen different oysters shipped in from the world over--daily. Chincoteauges (sp) are in there, but they are only the tip of the "shellberg." (Forget metaphors, how about puns!)
