This Thanksgiving I am preparing a ham with pineapples and brown sugar. A few side dishes such as artichokes au gratin and fresh green beans. Does anyone have a suggestion for an appropriate wine for this type of dinner? I'm tempted to go with a smokey wine but am not sure.

Hi Mom, and welcome to the Wine Board. I would go with a pinot noir. That would include any quality one from HRM Rex-Goliath, Free Range, Central Coast, Pinot Noir ($8) to a Loring Gary's Vinyard, Santa Lucia Highlands, Monterey ($42). A very powerful rose' such as an Illumanti Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Campirosa, Cerasuolo (Abruzzian for Rose')($11), would go fine too.
