There's a huge advertising campaign going on down here in MA from the NH State Stores. They're telling us how they're now giving a discount on full case and over sales. Then they go on to say that they have the lowest prices in the country. Well, there have been several customers in our shop telling us how they always pick up stuff (beer, wine and spirits) when they're down in MA from their homes in NH visiting friends or relatives. We've been told our wine prices are $2 or more a bottle cheaper than NH stores and our spirits prices are $4 or more lower. There was one guy from NH who picked up a full case of Patron Silver 750's because our price was $9 cheaper than NH. So, who came up with this ad campaign and who are they trying to fool? Admittedly, I haven't been to NH to check their prices myself, but 30 or so customers from NH in our shop over the past few weeks seems to tell a tale.

You would probably get more customers from up here if more knew that there are no retail taxes on wine down there.

Incidentally you can check prices here: http://www.nh.gov/liquor/index.shtml

They add a tax in NH? I thought there weren't any sales taxes.

No they don't, but the lack of taxes down there too, makes MA competitive. Also all wine is brought in through the state auspices, where MA has multiple sources.

OK, makes sense. BTW, I checked the web site and I couldn't believe the prices. An example. - Woodbridge 1.5; we charge $9.99, this is NH sale price. The only (sale) item I noticed we're higher on is the Grey Goose 1.75. Our regular price is $51.99, lower than the NH regular price, but not as low as their sale price. Patron Silver 750 - our price is $10 less than NH!!! The list goes on, and they say they have the lowest prices in the nation - yeah right.
