Hurray for Green Bay! My Packers are now 7-1. I guess it's about time for me to admit that they are for real. Perhaps they're not as good as either the Colts or Pats, but they're as good as anyone else this year. And, with Favre under center, anything's possible.

Heckuva game between those unbeatens today, and congrats to you New Englanders.

- TheEngineer - 11-05-2007

What...the pats played today??? Oh yeah our indiana office called earlier to wish me well. I did in kind alsp

...only I'm a Green Bay fan..... But you gotta hand it to those boys......9-0.....wow.

- winophite - 11-05-2007

ouch!

- wondersofwine - 11-06-2007

Good game. I was kind of rooting for the Colts but am somewhat neutral on that matchup. Would like to see Redskins get into playoffs. Looks like another sad year for the 49ers. Would also like to see Kansas City Chiefs have a good season.

- Bucko - 11-06-2007

Pro sports have pretty much turned me off. It boils down to the best team money can buy. I truly believe the powers that be in pro sports should limit the maximum payroll for a team. There was a $60 million difference in the highest and lowest team payroll in pro football in 2006. It's worse in pro baseball -- $165 million!

It was the $54 million Rockies facing the $143 million Red Sox...

Capitalism vs. socialism.

- wondersofwine - 11-07-2007

But,but, Bucko's not a socialist.

I agree that a little more equity would be more fair. However, Steinbrenner has not been able to buy a World Series title lately.

- Innkeeper - 11-07-2007

If you look back a little you will see that teams like the Steelers, Patriots, Red Sox, etc had to start winning before they became rich.

- Bucko - 11-07-2007

Socialist? I'm just an old hillbilly.

It is called 'level playing field'.

- PinotEnvy - 11-08-2007

In baseball it is hardly socialism vs capitalism. A level playing field is good for the game. Teams in the AL East have to overcome the Yankees and Red Sox money. Fans go into year after year knowing they have no shot. They can not afford to keep good players as they get into the prime of their careers and can't aquire the complementary players around them. A lack of hope will lead to fan indifference.

That aside, it is the rapidly rising salaries that increase the cost of running the team. As those costs increase, it is passed on the the fan with higher and higher ticket prices and new publicly funded stadiums. It is more out of all our wallets every year to be a fan.

- Glass_A_Day - 11-09-2007

Um, the Red Sox went in 86 years with no chance of winning and didn't become a money machine until they started to win. As stated above about the Yankees, money can't buy a win. You play smart and hard, win, make more money, get better players, win more, make more money, get even more players, etc. It's the way of things. A very short while back there wasn't even team called the Rockies and this year they made it to the world series. I feel no sympathy there. They did damn good for their age. Give them another 100 years and I bet they have a bigger budget and a few wins under there belts. Apples and oranges my friends. This isn't nascar where everyone starts out equal and it's up to the driver. There is history here along with leadership, budget, and management. As far as budget, it's whatever people will pay dictates the value. It's the same with wine. I don't cry over the bottles that have gone from $50 to $200 now that I can't afford them. Hey, if they can sell out at $200 then that's smart business. I just go find bottles I can afford. Oh and by the by, I never called Bucko a socialist. It was just a wise ass remark to get a rise out him. I never thought anyone would go nutty over it. We have a little history of jabbing each other. No harm intended...

- PinotEnvy - 11-09-2007

GAD, I just have a different perspective. One where they threatend only a few years ago to contract my team, the Twins despite very reasonable attendance because the revenues were so low (and the team owner is a @#$%). I don't want argue, but I do think the salary disparities of the last 10-15 years cause many problems. I'll just leave it at that. I am sorry if I came off as nutty, but baseball is a passion of mine.
