There's a snowacane headed your way, with 70 mph winds and 6-12 inches of white stuff. So says Accuweather.

- TheEngineer - 02-24-2010

On a redeye back tonight.....

- Kcwhippet - 02-24-2010

There was already 10 inches when I left for work this morning, and still snowing. Work is on the other side of the snow line, so it's been all rain here. Weird.

Tolt youse so. WW

I'm supposed to attend a dessert wine seminar tomorrow at the NY Wine and Culinary Center. Not likely.

Did I mention that I am sick of winter?

I'm contemplating taking a leisurely cross country train trip, to make stops along the way seeking a place to which I can move and spend the rest of my years in perfect harmony with wine and weather.

'Twould be tough to beat Fredericksburg, Tx, Foodie. The nearest train depot is about 70 miles away but there are plenty of rental cars available. And probably a dozen wineries within 20 miles. Good restaurants, too, and friendly folks. Nice place.

- Thomas - 02-24-2010

I'll put that on my list.

70 miles from Amtrak or local trains?

Thursday, 8:24 a.m. Heavy snow falling here along the Jersey coast. School was closed AGAIN! Even we teachers have had enough of snow days. But my hubby is off today, too, so at least I have company!

Will NOT post my complaints here today. You mite try the Phoenix train stop there Foodster. We do have a couple of months that are warmer than necessary but between air-conditioning and swimming pools it's fairly easy to escape. WW

I'd recommend Monterey or Santa Barbara counties except for the high cost of living, including taxes. For the wealthy, the living there is really nice. Moderate temperatures year round, ocean or bay access, wine country nearby, good restaurants, livable traffic situations, and in the case of Monterey, not too long a trip to get to San Francisco if you want to take in opera, symphony concerts, theater, etc.

Used to live in Livermore in the East Bay. There are over 40 wineries there, and, granted, they don't all have the cachet of Napa or Sonoma, but they do produce some very nice wines. Mileage from other places are: Napa-60, Santa Rosa-90, San Francisco-45, Monterey-95. Distances aren't like upstate NY because there are freeways and you can get up some decent speed. It used to take me about 45 mins to Napa, but never more than about an hour with heavy traffic. Prices are considerably cheaper than in most other places also, particularly now.

For Foodie: uh, the "local train"... I guess that would be Billy-bob's mules.... and Amtrak?.... is he related to that white duck on the teevee?

- Thomas - 02-25-2010

WW, if I take the trip, I intend to stop at Phoenix--not to scout the area, but to give you some hell and show you how to drink.

Jane, Santa Barabra would be the place, if I had WW's money.

KC: I never thought of Livermore. Hmmm.

Hotsie, are you telling me the train there uses wood to power it???

- hotwine - 02-25-2010

Naw, they generally like hay.

Give it your best shot Bubba-Baby....WW

Looks like we be sending youse another lovely shot of stuff. Has been raining all nite and still is. Could be another biggie. WW

- hotwine - 02-28-2010

We're expecting a little shower tonight and maybe tomorrow but no heavy stuff, and certainly no snow. It's about 62F here and breezy....deeelightful! Got a dozen or so coming this evening for vittles and vino.

- Thomas - 03-01-2010

We have had snow everyday for the past six, and more is expected over the next three days. Still, we have yet to amass more than about a foot of the stuff. Weather has been warmer and the wet snow melts well.

But I would love to see sunshine once more before I die.

- Kcwhippet - 03-01-2010

I am so looking forward to this coming weekend. It's supposed to be sunny and in the 50's. That's going to be almost like summer after what we've been going through.
