- Innkeeper - 02-17-2005 If you thought you have heard it all, you need to check out p.4 of today's (Feb 17) "Dan Berger's Vintage Experiences." Some excerpts from Dan: -"Radio Frequency IDentification, initially used mainly for inventory tracking, calls for manufacturers to place tiny 'transmitters; in goods to more automate inventory systems. -But large retailers like the use of RFID for use as sales tools, to link the sale of an item to the demographic data embedded in the magnetic strip on a credit card to target future sales. -At this very moment, E&J Gallo is scurrying to meet a Wal-Mart deadline to add RFID to the wines it will sell the world's largest retail marketer." So, next time you buy a Gallo product at Wal-Mart with a credit card, you might later get a call saying, "Hey, if you liked our '01 Merlot, you're gonna love the '02!"
