After six weeks without any precipitation we got six inches of snow last night. Never thought we'd like to see snow in February! Tired of looking at bare ground all the time.

here, it begins now at about 6:30 AM and ends at about 6:15 PM, but each day, daylight lasts approximately a minute longer than the previous day, until June 21, when the pattern reverses itself.

I don't see how you northerners stand it. If it snows down here and the snow stays for more than 2 days, I get sick of it. I couldn't imagine having it stay for months at a time.

Today we have 10 hours and 48 minutes of daylight. Tomorrow we get three more minutes.

This morning it haden't started doing any thing and they were canceling schools all around. By 11:00am the roads were getting bad and Charlotte business were clearing out. It took me 1 1/2 hours to get home and almost ran off the road several times. Wrecks all over Charlotte. My jobs gettin postponed. You all should keep this stuff up north.

It's a beautiful day up here. The eight inches we picked up two days over the weekend are practically gone. No more precip forcasted in the visible future.

Well, the 13 year old me is really jealous of the 33 year old me. After seeing the other schools closing, I made the decision to close school today. Yay! Snow day! [img]http://wines.com/ubb2/smile.gif[/img]
Actually, I find it somewhat amusing, as this amount of "snow" wouldn't have even canceled my soccer games growing up. In fact, I can only remember school closing once -- during Chicago's famous "Blizzard of '79" when about 27 inches of snow fell over the span of a couple days and nearly 90" fell over three months. That Jan., there were only 3 days above freezing, and a record low of -19* was set. (Innkeeper can stop laughing now -- it's not Maine, but this was bad for Chicago).
Here in Atlanta, 1" is cause for a mad dash to the grocery for milk, etc. Which brings up the serious question -- If people are worried about power outages and an inability to get to the store, why do they buy perishables? Wouldn't it make more sense to be buying canned goods or something? I don't know, maybe it's just me . . .

Well judging from what I see on the patio table we have about 8 in. so far, and still snowing. The weather channel is saying we should have about 12 in. in the morning. My son will turn 14 next week, this is the biggest snow he has ever seen.
Oh well, I'll take a day of vacation tomorrow and go sleding with him.

Keep the stuff up north? No thanks. We've had our fair share this year.
The problem isn't the snow, its the fact that people don't know how to drive in it. I'm also pretty sure that you don't have the snowplows to handle it. Here in Chicago we have over 300 salt trucks/snow plows that would have been on the roads hours before the storm was to hit.
Sorry to hear that it's happening to you, espically so late in the year - but at least the kids are going to have a great time!

Dananne in all of the time I lived in Dalton it never ceased to amaze me the southern mentality for bad weather driving. Just get some ice on the roads for a couple of hours and the body repair shops were booked for the year. SCARY! WW [img]http://wines.com/ubb2/eek.gif[/img]

I'm off to St. Petersburg on Sunday. Going to thaw out for a week. I (and 406 of my fellow workers) will be attending the company's annual Global Marketing Meeting. However, I do intend to spend some quality beach time as well as getting out on a sail or two. BTW, if I don't reply to any queries directed my way next week, that'll be why.

I got my taste of people who don't know how to drive in a miserable inch of snow when I lived in the Maryland and DC area.
The funniest was to see a lady trying to shovel her car out so that it would stop skidding as she maneuvered the parking space--she was using a dust pan!

The snow is melting here, and the temps are rising. The cardinals are starting to sing again, and I saw and heard a Canadian goose fly north today. Spring is coming!

I'll stick with our liquid sunshine. I'm used to the rust on my ankles. I'll take temperate weather anyday, albeit wet.

We got about 8" of snow in Fayetteville Thursday morning--not as bad as Charlotte. Commanders didn't close down post until 10:15 or 10:30. Took me 1 hr. 45 min. to get home in what is usually a 20-min. drive. Cars and trucks off the road, lanes blocked with cars that couldn't get traction and were spinning their wheels. Didn't have to report to work Friday either. By the weekend temps warmed to 50's or 60's and snow melted.
