- Georgie - 05-29-2003 We should not let this day pass without lifting a glass in honor of Bob Hope's 100th. Congratulations Bob, and thank you for all the years of laughs and dedicated, unselfish service to our troops. Truly an American classic! - Bucko - 05-29-2003 He is a one of a kind patriot who gave a lot to the troops. He has my undying respect just for that alone. What a wonderful life he has lived, and what joy he has provided to uncounted millions. - winoweenie - 05-30-2003 Of all the travels I've taken in my life, the Roads I've been on with him were classic. Was north of his show at Phu Cat AB in 'Nam in '67; a Chinook took one of our platoons to see the show, but lost its tailrotor at 1000' off the end of the runway and all were lost. However, a couple of his babes came to our LZ (Two Bits), and trooped through the mud wearing white short-shorts, high white boots and itty-bitty T-shirts. What a sight! One was named Sabrina and had a freckle just below her left cheek. Can't recall much in the way of detail about that time.... - Innkeeper - 05-30-2003 He came to Danang in early '72 when we at the base were the only combat troops in I Corps. Never the less he was set up with the Army support troops out at the beach. Only a handful of our guys not including moi got to go. Despite all that, it was super of him to come; it was actually quite dangerous at the time. I have always enjoyed his work, especially his shows for the troops which I have seen many of on TV. - wondersofwine - 05-30-2003 I vaguely remember mother taking me to one of his movies when I was about five years old. He fell or jumped off a ship and garbage was thrown in and a watermelon shell landed on his head. It was supposed to be a comic bit but I cried! (Now the movie crew would be arrested for polluting the ocean.) - Thomas - 05-30-2003 Hotwine, back in '70 someone gave me a cat for my birthday--I named it Phu Cat in honor of... Lost one of my best friends there. - hotwine - 05-31-2003 Sympathies, Foodie. We lost an awful lot of good people in those days. Here's to 'em all. |
