Hard drive crashes are bad news for cellar software!

My hard drive debacle of the early summer wiped out both wine databases: Cellar! from CollectWare and Cellar Savant.... the former spanned maybe five years, the latter only a year or two. Although both were backed up onto CD-ROM, I discovered (too late) that the backups were faulty. Was able to recover a garbled text version of Cellar!, but C. Savant seems to be gone forever.

To anyone else using a formatted database to record their wine purchases, storage locations, prices paid and tasting notes, highly recommend you make backup text files frequently, like at least monthly, and preferably in paper form. The only (mostly) complete record of my TNs is now right here, on this board (sob, sniff...)

To err is human, but really screwing things up takes a computer!

Happy Veterans Day Gil, and praise the Lord that the Jordanians don't think GWB bombed the hotels.

Happy Vets' Day to you too, Carl, and to all others here-abouts. Thinking a lot about old buds who fell years ago.

Thas why my cellar records are and always have been on paper. I get the occassional orphan whenced I fergit to take out a bottle I've deleted but the worst mistake I can make is a bottle or 4. WW
