hello everyone.
me and my husband have been drinking wine for about 2 years now but only recently have we really begun getting into it as hobby.
so we are still a novice and all the wines we've tried have been on "lets try and see if we like it."could anyone explain to me what i should be looking for in a wine(ive found i like zinfadels and merlots)ive read things about their ph and a brix residual sugar on websites but have no clue what this means or what level/range i should be looking for.
any info would truly be appreciated!=)

Welcome, Clueless. I think you're on the right track already. You know the flavors you like so keep sampling. For me I identify with producers whose style I enjoy, particularly in off vintages. Also, as wine critics and wine BB's go, I tend to try suggested wines from those who I have identified as having similar tastes and preferences as my own, this seems to limit the "bad buys".

Clueless, unless you are getting into making wine forget the brix and ph stuff for now. Keep doing what you are doing--seek out a variety of wines, find out what you prefer and that is all. You could also get yourself some books that will explain the basics and maybe talk about the different wines throughout the world.

Wine is food. For some of us, it is food and a passion. If you view it as the former and keep experimenting, you might be lucky enough to develop the latter, and then you will learn what brix and ph have to do with the subject.

Hi clueless, and welcome aboard! Foodie & Drew have some good advice for ya... keep experimenting and enjoying... do a lil' reading, and don't worry about the ph levels and other "stuff..." in your wine. I don't, and I've been enjoying wine for almost 20 years now! Cheers!
