This looks to be a very nasty storm. I sure hope it does not smack Texas as some weather maps are predicting. Hotwine might float off from all of the rain to follow.

Yeh, I'm getting my cubits lined up for ark-building. After 6.2" Thursday from TS Erin, we'd probably get permanent jungle rot from another deluge. All of the rivers, lakes and creeks are full, and springs that have been dormant for 50 years are flowing strong. Seems like every rocky hillside is seeping water.

I used a posthole digger to take soil samples on a tract we were considering in the Hill Country a couple of weeks ago (which we've since bought), and was trying to reach a depth of 36" as recommended by the county's viticulture specialists.... had to quit at 30" due to the high water table flooding the holes. Got two very nice samples, though, which the agents have since blessed for Sangiovese, Tempranillo and Syrah. (Had to call in a tow-truck to drag my truck out of the mud.)

I don't mind the rain... but I do still have a clean-up job from Thursday, since my little John Deere and utility trailer were inundated in the back yard. Haven't checked the winecellar yet, to see if water got in there.

Well, there's water in there.... maybe 1/2" to 3/4" deep. Also a nest of pesky ground bees in the rocks beside the entrance.... tagged me a couple of times. Grrrr.

Erin will be a minor nuisance if Dean roars on shore around Corpus. Let's hope it stays well south.

Will talk to HW after I git offin this post. My Bro and Sister-in-Law live on the Bolivar Penisula and are hoping that sucker leaves them alone. WW

I vote for an offline in about ten years in Texas so we can freeload off HW's vineyard!

- hotwine - 08-20-2007

Y'all will be welcome, if we ever get that far.

Just mopped 10 qts of water out of the cellar.... also two little green tree-frogs and a four-inch slug. Didn't ask how they got in there.

- Bucko - 08-20-2007

Well it looks like the worst of the storm is going to hit well south of Texas.

- hotwine - 08-20-2007

Not! Ugliest danged slug I've seen since the last election.

- winophite - 08-21-2007

Just curious if that ugly slug was the winner or the loser, or perhaps a matched set WP
