What type of wine should I serve with ham??

- TheEngineer - 12-15-2005

What type of ham. If its Spanish Jamon Serrano or such, I'd go with a good rustic wine like a Rioja Reserva!

Thank you for the reply. I believe it will be a spiral-sliced ham served with augratin potatoes.

Welcome to the board CRB. Pinot Noir/Burgundy work well with baked ham, as does a German Mosel Spatlese.

Which brand of pinot would you suggest that would go with the Augraten potatoes? What about a Beaujoloais? What brand would be good?

I'm with Hotwine here -- a Spatlese level German Riesling.

HELP! Traditionally, I make baked virginia ham with cloves, pineapple, and cherries every year for christmas. My inlaws who I have never met(I have been married 11 years) are flying in from California(I live in Tennessee). This "country girl" wants to impress and show them our christmas traditions, but I have no idea what wine to serve, since they are expecting a very "grand" meal. Can you help me please?

German Mosel Spatlese or Moscato or Asti Spumanti. Have a bottle of Cuvee champagne on hand if they don't like the sweet stuff.
