<rant>Sometimes I turn on this channel and get a great lesson in cooking(which I want!), and other times I get "Date Plate," a terrible show where two bachelors compete over a lady by cooking for her. Not time is spent on showing how to cook the items they make. It is a waste of time for the aspiring cook. </end rant>

Couldn't agree more. That show is real garbage. The other one I detest is Rachel Ray's Inside Dish. She just tries way too hard to be cute and charming. Phony over-laughing...too much gushing. I want to slap her. however,I do enjoy her Thirty Minute Meals and Forty Dollars a Day shows. One show I really like from its teaching aspect is Cookworks. Good techniques taught on that one.

Sorry...everyday Italian, she my fav!!

I love "David Rocco's Dolce Vita" which is only on Foodnetwork Canada...wish they would bring that to the US...combo of cooking and what live is like cooking in Italy

The wacky "The Surreal Gourmet" is also very ..um...neat...

Also since we entertain a "party dish"
lot, "http://www.foodtv.ca/tv/shows/titledetails/title_82210.asp"

The Canadian shows tend to have a sharp, crisp modern style to them with appropriate music background that is barely noticable. Camera angles and zoom/crop are fresh and novel...and the show is the start versus the chef. They are nice change from the chef centered shows that dominate the US Foodnetwork...hope some of these make it down much like Debbie Travis and Devine Design (I love you Debbie...please come and renovate my sorry excuse of a house!!)

I love Giada di Laurentii's show as well..."Everday Italian." I am in love with that woman...beautiful Italian who knows how to cook.
