Our friends in the ad business have REALLY outdone themselves with the current crop of Radio Spots where credible sounding Caterers go on and on about "letting the ingredients select the menu" and "Always serving my best" and then cut to a howler that makes Arkan the Butcher of Belgrade look like George Washington in the "I cannot tell a lie" department:

"Beringer White Zinfandel pleases everyone, goes with everything and shows I really care about my clients". Can anyone with a brain listen to this drivel and not imagine the cater being immediately shown the door by any client with the money and interests to hire her? YES I know it's an ad, but it is also a blatant distortion of reality and, once again an attempt to manipulate those with social anxiety about wine into buying some industrial crap so they "do the right thing".

Joe Mccarthy must be looking up from hell and smiling.

72 hours to VinItaly 99, Roberto

Roberto,

I love your outlook. Wouldn't it be nice, however, if the guys making real wine came up with some real advertising. The simple fact is: in America advertising sells, mostly junk.

Wish you hadn't reminded me that I cannot make VinItaly this year. Kiss Verona for me.
